IR Omnibus Bill Update

by | Apr 1, 2021 | Employment Law and Workplace Relations Blog

In December last year, we published a number of posts regarding the Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia’s Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill.

On 22 March 2021, the much reduced Bill was passed through Parliament.

Provisions relating to wage theft penalties, the length of greenfield agreements and enterprise agreement bargaining including controversial changes to the Better Off Overall Test were abandoned.

However, the provisions relating to casuals were passed including a definition of casual employment and casual employee rights to request conversion to full-time or part-time employment. You can see our previous post detailing the provisions here.

Media reporting indicates the Government will consider how it might seek to re-introduce the abandoned provisions in the future.

We look forward to keeping you posted.
