Cassie is a Special Counsel in our Health Law Team.
Cassie is an experienced legal practitioner, having been admitted to practice in 1994 after graduating in law from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts.
In her over 25 years in litigation, Cassie has worked in both government and private practice. She has worked in professional indemnity insurance matters, with a large focus on health law, including as an in-house solicitor/claims manager for a medical indemnity insurer and for in-house for a regulator. Cassie places great importance on personal integrity, creating trust and delivering legal services to a high level. She exercises careful professional judgement, with awareness of confidentiality and reputational issues and impacts to her clients arising from litigation, both disciplinary and medical negligence matters.
As a result of her own experience as a client and a sophisticated user of external legal services, she strives to provide timely, well-reasoned and strategic advice, which is cost-effective to her clients. Cassie has many years’ experience in medical negligence claims acting for medical and allied health practitioners and hospitals defending claims, including considering complex issues of liability and causation and obtaining expert evidence. She is also very experienced in disciplinary proceedings, having acted for medical practitioners and also had the conduct of the regulatory prosecutions of lawyers in her role as Manager of Litigation at the regulatory body for the legal profession in WA for six years.
