The Fair Work Commission’s “Expert Panel for Annual Wage Reviews” has decided to increase the National Minimum Wage and most modern award rates.

Key points of the Expert Panel’s decision are:

  • The National Minimum Wage increased to $21.38 per hour ($812.60 per week for full-time adult employees).
  • Adult full-time and part-time award rates to increase by 4.6% with a minimum adult full-time increase of $40 per week.
  • Award increases apply from 1 July 2022 except for the following awards where increases will apply from 1 October 2022:
    • Aircraft Cabin Crew Award 2020
    • Airline Operations – Ground Staff Award 2020
    • Air Pilots Award 2020
    • Airport Employees Award 2020
    • Alpine Resorts Award 2020
    • Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020
    • Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award 2020
    • Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020
    • Restaurant Industry Award 2020.
    • Award rates for casual employees will increase proportionately.

The WA Industrial Relations Commission is now expected to make its State Wage Case decision before 30 June 2022.

In addition to award increases, employers are reminded that after 1 July 2022, the “superannuation guarantee percentage” rate increases from 10% to 10.5% of ordinary time earnings and employees earning less than $450 per month are no longer excluded from an employer’s obligation to make superannuation contributions.
